Supporting a Living Wage
Jake Marsing believes that advocating for working families means advocating for economic justice and prosperity for all of Longmont's residents. Longmonsters deserve a raise.
While other communities in the area have been pushing for a gradual increase to a living wage, Longmont hasn’t been able to get there, leaving some of the city’s most vulnerable residents behind. No one in Longmont should work 40 hours a week and still struggle to put food on the table or heat their homes. As a member of council, Jake is committed to working with local business owners, nonprofits, and other partners to fight for the establishment of a living wage in Longmont.
This proposal is supported by other regional partners and will ensure that every worker can afford to live in the city they serve.
Jake understands that many of Longmont’s small businesses and nonprofits are the backbone of our community, and have reasonable concerns about the impacts of a living wage. He is committed to making sure that any implementation of such a proposal is done in a way that supports these businesses, ensuring they have the resources to pay fair wages without sacrificing their success.
When workers earn a living wage, they can spend more locally, benefiting Longmont’s economy as a whole. By increasing wages, Jake believes Longmont will build a stronger, more sustainable economy. Supporting a living wage is one of the fundamental ways Jake believes Longmont can build a city that works for everybody.
