Addressing Public Safety Needs
Growing up as the son of a Longmont police officer, Jake understands the critical importance of public safety.
Jake is committed to ensuring our police have the resources they need to keep Longmont safe. He believes in providing law enforcement with the training, personnel, and support necessary to maintain public safety, while also focusing on proactive solutions to prevent crime. Jake does not support “defunding the police,”and is dedicated to equipping our officers with the tools they need to serve effectively, particularly when addressing mental health crises practicing and de-escalation.
However, public safety goes beyond policing; it’s about fostering a community where residents feel safe and supported. Longmont is already making strides with community programs focused on restorative justice, mental health support, and diversion, which have proven effective in reducing recidivism and connecting offenders with resources. The Longmont Police Department (LPD) should continue to innovate in these areas.
As a council member, Jake will advocate for expanding restorative justice programs, investing in mental health resources, and creating job opportunities to address the root causes of crime. He is committed to comprehensive solutions that ensure a safer Longmont for everyone.
